Childhood Vaccination Presentation

  1. Lauren,
I thought your presentation was very informative on a topic that is important. I really liked how you addressed some controversies that may exist involving vaccinations. These issues are somewhat current in the media and I think it was a good choice to add them to your discussion. Also, the hard copy of the information that you provided to the audience is a great way for the audience to continue their education on the subject after your presentation. This may cause them to become even more informed on this issue and perhaps share that knowledge with others. Great presentation!

  2. Lauren,
I found it interesting to learn that parent's are not getting their children vaccinated. I had no idea this was a problem. I do not have any children myself, so I suppose I am out of that loop. Although, I taught Pre-K a year ago and I know that the student was not allowed in school or to return if they did not have all their age appropriate vaccines. The nurse would send out letters to the parents and would inform us if the child returned without the vaccinations they were to be sent to her and she would send the child back home until they could prove that they had received them. Thanks for your presentation.

  3. Lauren,

I think you did a great job with your presentation. Both of my children are now in their mid-20s, so it's been a long time since we went through the vaccination years. I don't remember ever considering NOT having my kids vaccinated. That was just what you did. Our pediatrician recommended it, and we followed his advice. I was aware that there were some very slight risks, but the risks were so slight that I wasn't worried. Measles, mumps, TB, etc. all seemed like much scarier alternatives than vaccinations.

I have to wonder if part of the anti-vaccination movement which we see today isn't driven by our easy access to the Internet and 24 hour news cycles. There's just so much information out there, available to anyone with a computer, and not all of it is accurate or reliable. Regardless of why it's a "thing" now, I find it really frightening. I'm so bothered by the resurgence of pertussis that I requested a vaccination for it when I had my annual check-up last winter. I believe vaccines are very important.

    Thanks for your presentation.
